Study summarizes "the higher education community's current sentiments and experiences related to strategic planning and readiness, policies and procedures, workforce, and the future of AI in higher education. "
2 • Strategic Planning and Readiness
Primary motivators for AI strategic planning: keeping up with AI tools, supporting student experience, and training faculty, staff, and students.
3 • Strategic Leaders and Partners
Institutional leaders are cautiously optimistic: General attitudes, units working on AI related strategy, primary leaders for AI strategy, and understanding everyone has a role in the process.
4 • Policies and Procedures
Institutional policies created to address AI-related issues: Impact of AI on policy; impact on teaching and learning, technology, cybersecurity, and data privacy; importance of academic integrity.
5 • Workforce
AI is starting to impact higher education workforces, including changes in leadership and non-leadership positions.
6 • The Future of AI in Higher Education
Higher Ed community is still looking for common ground on how AI should and should not be used for learning and work: Appropriate and inappropriate uses, as well as opportunities and risks.
7 • Recommendations and Resources
Recommended actions to take and collection of AI related resources offered by EDUCAUSE.
8 • Methodology and Acknowledgements
The 2024 EDUCAUSE AI Landscape study survey comprised 46 closed- and open-ended questions. (The full survey instrument is available online.)

Demographics included primary job role, area of responsibility, years worked in higher ed, institution FTE and type, and MSI Status.
