As their name suggests, Alphabet books, sometimes referred to as ABC books, were originally used to teach children the alphabet. Today, "many of them have moved beyond teaching children their alphabet to serving as a format to present detailed information about a particular subject for older boys and girls, to showcase an art book, or to create complicated puzzles" (Huck, p. 131).
Archer Library's juvenile collection includes alphabet books. As noted during the course scavenger hunt, some titles are cataloged and identified as Alphabet Books, such as those found in the PE 1155 Alphabet Books section in the stacks. Other books may have a different subject and include elements of an alphabet book; in these instances alphabet is the secondary subject consideration.
