Guide Overview

Welcome! This library guide supports your exploration of children's and young literature for grades 4 - 12. It focuses on selected genres and resources located in Archer Library's juvenile collection and is a starting point for using Archer Library's website, catalog, the Instructional Resource Center. 

Here you will find information used during your library instruction session and general class assignments.

  • Introduction: Guide introduction (this page); use the drop-down menu for a link to the Instructional Resource Center.
  • About Genres: Definitions of the term genre along with selected books & eBooks on the topic;
  • Children's Literature Genres:  Explore resources for realistic fiction, historical fiction, fantasy fiction, traditional literature, Non-fiction, and Poetry & Verse. Each tab contains a definition of the genre and select titles from the library's juvenile collection.
  • Finding Your Book: An overview of the LC classification system and how to locate a title in the collection. This tab also includes drop-down menu options for library catalog tutorials and the IRC.
