AI & Academics • An Overview

Ashland University & Academic Integrity

Forms of Academic Misconduct: Instances of academic misconduct include “using computing resources in a manner that violates University academic integrity policies. Unless explicitly permitted by the instructor, the submission of Artificial Intelligence-generated content as one's original work is one such violation” (AU Catalog, 2024-25).

AI Coursework & Assignments

Understand the Syllabus:  Students must follow AI guidelines and policies established by each professor for the responsible use of GenAI and AI chatbots in any and all courses, assignments, and projects.

AU Guidelines for Accountability

“Students, faculty, and staff are accountable for ensuring the integrity of their work, regardless of the tools used in its creation. When employing AI tools to generate content, individuals must ensure the end-product is accurate, free from errors and biases, and respects copyright laws” (Proposed AI Guideline, 2025).

AU Guidelines for Research

“Generative AI offers opportunities for enhancing creativity and efficiency in academic research, and researchers are encouraged to leverage these tools responsibly and ethically” (Proposed AI Guideline, 2025).
