The XR Learning Project will provide space, training, technology and activities that develop virtual reality learning skills for undergraduate students, which will establish a base of information literacy not only for retention and successful completion of their university programs, but also for lifelong learning through inculcation of XR-based collaborative and participatory methods of acquiring knowledge.
The project’s VR-based individual learning and AR-based mixed reality group will develop students’ problem-based and experiential learning skills. By modeling XR learning in a state-of-the-art setting to the University teaching faculty, the project will enhance the creation of this new teaching methodology across the curriculum as instructors adopt and adapt project methodology to their course projects.
Creating hybrid collaborative physical and virtual participant interaction in a dedicated XR conference area will for the first time provide faculty, staff and student group meetings with immersive, real-time collaborative experiences, bringing together distant and present users in a novel XR reality setting.
Following analysis of the introductory demonstration sessions, Archer Library faculty and the course design coordinator will work with additional teaching faculty to expand incorporation of all three XR modalities into coursework. Longer-term impact of both the demonstration sessions and future uses of the XR Conference Room will be evaluated through surveys and analysis by the project librarians and instructional designers.
Archer Library's 2022-23 main floor renovation project included construction of the physical space, furnishings, and additional technology resources.
