Reference books are located on the Main Floor and must be used in the library.  They are a wonderful starting point for any research, providing an overview of topics and issues.  Reference books frequently include a bibliography that may lead you to other useful resources.

Keyword Search Tips

  • Uses natural language. Type a word or phrase. 
  • With keyword you can search for simply “women” or for (women OR females) or for  (women OR females) AND HIV. 
  •   Try not to use concepts like "sex trafficking of ukranian women in the 20th Century" in your search strategy. Use simple nouns or verbs in your search and link them together with AND or OR.  For example,(prostitution or sex-trafficking) and africa (You don't need to capitalize when searching.)

  •  Requires specific Library of Congress Subject Headings.                  

Women Developing Countries 

Women in rural development -- Africa

Globalization -- Social aspects

Human trafficking 

Women's rights -- International cooperation  

Birth control -- Religious aspects
