Scott O'Dell Award

Scott O'Dell, author of The Island of the Blue Dolphins, established the Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction in 1982.

The award is given annually to "a meritorious book published in the previous year for children or young adults. Scott O'Dell established this award to encourage other writers--particularly new authors--to focus on historical fiction."

Looking @ Historical Fiction

"Historical fiction tells stories set in the past; it portrays events that actually occurred or possibly could have occured. Authors create plot and character within an authentic historical setting" (p. 15).

"Historical fiction ranges from stories set in prehistoric times to those reflecting the issues and events of the twentieeth century" (p.15).

Where's My Book?

I'm in the library, where's my book? Juvenile books are located on the second floor, even ones that do not begin with PZ!

The juvenile collection, call numbers beginning with "A," starts after Caldecott & Newbery award books section. Ask in the IRC if you need help.
