Library databases are increasingly offering users artificial intelligence (AI) features such as natural language searching, analysis of content, and information synthesis.
AI search tools located within databases may be an opt-in resource, freely available with an account, or a premium feature requiring an additional purchase. Inclusion of AI tools in databases continues to grow.
These databases are currently configured to offer users the option of utilizing AI enhanced features. This guide features use of AI tools in OneSearch and JSTOR.
OneSearch: Primo Research Assistant
The Primo Research Assistant is a tool powered by Generative Artificial Intelligence (specifically, Large Language Models or LLM). It allows you explore academic content by asking questions in natural language.
"Primo Research Assistant helps users find an easy starting point for their research by leveraging the power of generative AI."
JSTOR:AI Research Tool
The "AI research tool appears on content pages for journal articles, book chapters, research reports, and in search workflows that go beyond standard keyword matching." It helps users assess content relevance, deepen research, and provides a conversational search (JSTOR, AI Research Tool).
JSTOR's AI research tool works at the item level; not all content is available for use with the tool.
O'Reilly Learning: Ask O'Reilly Answers
Answers is a generative AI-powered feature that aims to answer questions in the flow of learning. It generates replies sourced from thousands of titles on the O'Reilly Learning Platform (Ask O'Reilly Answers).
