Juvenile Collection

The library's juvenile (or children's) collection is located on the second floor. This collection is cataloged and shelved using Library of Congress subject headings; it encompasses board books, picture books, and juvenile through young adult literature, fiction and non-fiction titles. Caldecott and Newbery titles begin the juvenile collection and they are followed immediately by juvenile subject headiings A through Z.

New books are added to the juvenile collection throughout the academic year. When shelf ready, they are placed in the new book area next to the Caldecott and Newbery titles.  At the beginning of each term, ;shelves are cleared for new books.

Juvenile Collection Overview: Library of Congress

Juvenile fiction falls under the Library of Congress subject heading P, language and literature; specifically PZ for general juvenile fiction. Juvenile non-fiction titles is classes within the topic area of it's regular subject heading class from A (general works) to Z (bibliography). Below is a quick guide resource for popular subject headings within language and literature.

Where's my book?

Children's books, the juvenile collection, are located on the second floor of AU Library. The juvenile collection includes fiction and non-fiction titles.

Call numbers beginning with "A" are located immediately after Caldecott & Newbery Award books. For ease of use, signs to help locate titles are posted on the end of each stack. Ask in the IRC if you need help finding a book.
