General ENGL 101 Learning Objectives: Library Instruction

Welcome to the course guide for ENG 101. After participating in the ENG 101 Library Instruction class, you should be able to do the following:

  1. Given a broad research topic, write a a clear-cut, manageable research question or statement. If necessary, use the 4W questions (who, what, where, when) to formulate your question.
  2. Given a research topic, compile a list of search terms or keywords.
  3. Understand the differences between Google and Library resources.
  4. Using the AU library's catalog or the OhioLINK catalog, find one relevant book on your topic.
  5. For your  research topic, access  general article index database (Academic Search Complete) or a discipline specific database (such as Education Research Complete), and find one relevant article on your topic.
  6. Understand that you do not need to use every article or book you find.  Only use the items that will answer your questions and support your paper.
