Reference books are located on the Main Floor and must be used in the library.  They are a wonderful starting point for any research, providing an overview of topics and issues.  Reference books frequently include a bibliography that may lead you to other useful resources.

Keyword Search Tips

  • Uses natural language. Type a word or phrase. 
  • With keyword you can search for simply “women” or for (women OR females) or for  (women OR females) AND HIV. 
  •   Try not to use concepts. Use simple nouns or verbs in your search and link them together with AND or OR.  For example,(prostitution or sex-trafficking) and ohio   You don't need to capitalize when searching.)

 Subject Search Tips

  •  Requires specific Library of Congress Subject Headings.                  

 

Human trafficking 

Crime -- Moral and ethical aspects

 Discrimination in education -- United States.

Distribution (Economic theory) -- Political aspects.
