WorldCat Catalog

Includes books and other media in US libraries.  Used only for locating, not requests. Once you have found an item you would like, you have two options...

  • Fill out an interlibrary loan request form. Enter as much information as you can find from the WorldCat record.
  •  Enter your zipcode to find availability in a library near you.

Tips for Searching Library Catalogs

Keyword Search

  •  Use natural language and type a word or phrase.  The search engine will automatically search multiple words as a phrase, but if it finds nothing, it will search for the words again, inserting AND between them.

  •  With keyword you can search for simply “france” or for "french fiction" or for (france OR french) AND fiction.
  • In a keyword search you can truncate words, allowing you to find variants of that word. ( Lit* retrieves books concerning literature, literacy and literary.)

 Subject Search

  •  Requires specific Library of Congress Subject Headings.
  •  If you enter your own keywords you may not always retrieve relevant results.  For example, if you did a Subject Search for Native American Writers you would find nothing.  You need to use the correct Subject Heading in a Subject Search. The words have to be typed in the exact order used by Library of Congress. For example:

American literature -- Indian authors -- History and criticism
