Mock Caldecott Panel: Spring 2016

Dr. Mary Rycik's children's literature class will participate in a Mock Caldecott Award panel on January 25, 2016. The following titles were reviewed; each meets basic criteria established by the Association for Library Services for Children, American Library Association Medal committee. 

About the titles: Picture books considered are recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (August - December 2015 ) and include well-known illustrators as well as those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, guache, painted oils, pencil, watercolors and mixed media. The following picture books were reviewed; four semi-finalists identified and a winner and honor book(s) chosen.

The following titles will be under consideration, each meets basic criteria established by the Association for Library Services for Children, American Library Association Medal committee.

About the titles: Picture books considered are recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (January - August 2015 ) and include well-known illustrators as well as those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, guache, painted oils, pencil, watercolors and mixed media. The following picture books will be reviewed; four semi-finalists will be identified and a winner and honor book(s) chosen..

About the titles: Picture books considered are recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (October - December 2014 ) and include well-known illustrators and those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, guache, painted oils, pencil, watercolors and mixed media. Twenty -two picture books will be reviewed by the class, four semi-finalists identified, and a winner and honor books chosen.

About the titles:  Picture books considered are recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (March - August 2014 ) and included well-known illustrators and those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, gauche, painted oils, pencil, watercolors and mixed media. Twenty picture books will be reviewed by the class, and four semi-finalists were identified: Baby Bear, The Numberlys, Firefly July, and All Different Now.

About the titles: Picture books considered were recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (November-December 2013) and included well-known illustrators and those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, guache, painted olis, pencil, watercolors and mixed media. Eighteen picture books were reviewed by the class and five semi-finalists were chosen; Red Knit Cap Girl to the Rescue, Knock Knock: My Dad's Dream for Me, The Dark, The First Drawing, and Mr. Tiger Goes Wild.

Dr. Mary Rycik's children's literature class participated in a Mock Caldecott Award panel on Tuesday, September 3. Titles were selected for review and followed criteria established by the Association for Library Services for Children, American Library Association Medal committee.

About the titles:  Picture books considered were recent additions to the AU library juvenile collection (June-August 2013) and included well-known illustrators and those new to the picture book category. A variety of artistic mediums were represented including collage, guache, painted olis, pencil, watercolors and mixed media.  

Eighteen picture books were reviewed by the class and four semi-finalists were chosen; Martin & Mahalia: His Words, Her Song, Papa's Mechanical Fish, Little Red Hot and Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle. The Mock Caldecott Panel winner for this term was Martin & Mahalia: His Words, Her Song, illustrated by J. Brian Pinkney.  Two titles were selected for Mock Caldecott Honor book winners; Papa's Mechanical Fish, illustrated by Boris Kulikov, and Little Red Hot, illustrated by Laura Huliska- Beith.

Each title under consideration is a recent addition to the library's juvenile collection (January 2012 - August 2012). Twenty (20) titles were reviewed by the class; a winner and six semi-finalists selected.
