Search By Keyword  (A search using common everyday languages for terms.)

• Access the library catalog by typing the following in the address bar of a web browser: https://library.ashland.edu/
• Click the Keyword tab (this is currently the default tab of the catalog) and enter the search terms.

Search By Title

• Access the library catalog by typing the following in the address bar of a web browser: https://library.ashland.edu/
• Click the Title tab, which is the second tab to the left of the screen and enter the title search terms.
• Click on the desired book link from the list of results.

Search By Author

• Access the library catalog by typing the following in the address bar a web browser: https://library.ashland.edu/ 
• Click the Author tab and enter the search name(s). Enter them like this:

                                       Last name, First name

• Click on the desired book link from the list of results.

Search By Subject  (A search using controlled vocabulary terms. They closely resemble the yellow pages in a phone book.)

• Access the library catalog by typing the following in the address bar of a web browser: https://library.ashland.edu/
• Click the Subject tab and enter the search terms. 
• Click on the desired book link from the list of results.

To locate items within the library you will need to know the Call Number and the Location.  

Call Numbers

Call numbers have two things that are most important to remember:

- A comes before B, all call numbers will be in alphabetical order. 

NOTE: A single letter call number will come before a double letter call number starting with the same letter.

- 1 comes before 2, all call numbers will then go in numeric order after the alphabetical order. 

NOTE: If a number has a decimal point in it, the whole number comes first and then the decimal number comes next.

Location

  Books with a location of SEMINARY will be located in the Seminary Library.

•  SEMINARY Referance Collection -  Books that are available for use, but CANNOT be borrowed from the library.

•  SEMINARY General Collection - Books that  are available for check-out. 

• SEMINARY Pfeiffer Collection -  Books from a special collection and can also be checked out.

• MAIN General Collection and other MAIN items will not be on the seminary campus, but still can be checked out*. These items are located at Ashland University's main library.
