Children's Literature Award Books

Welcome to the IRC's children's award book library guide. This is a starting place for information about children's and YA award books located in Archer Library's juvenile collection. Featured here are medal winning book titles for Newbery, Caldecott, and Coretta Scott King; ALA Youth Media award categories including Pura Belpré, Michael Printz, Theodor Seuss Geisel, Batchelder, YALSA Excellence in YA Nonfiction, and Sibert Informational books; also recognized are The Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards.

Children's Books • Collection Overview

Archer Library's juvenile collection supports the Dwight Schar College of Education curriculum and other courses and disciplines studying children's and young adult literature. Intended for AU students, preservice teachers, student teachers, faculty, and staff, the juvenile collection is also used by Ashland community borrowers and OhioLINK patrons.

Titles added to the juvenile collection, both fiction and non-fiction, are subject to professional reviews before purchase. Review resources include, but are not limited to, Booklist, Book Links, The Horn Book Magazine, School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, and The Reading Teacher.

Students are encouraged to preview, read and evaluate books before using them in a classroom. This step is necessary to determine if selected titles are appropriate for individual classroom situations. If you have questions about a particular title, consult with your professor or cooperating teacher.
